During this breastfeeding journey I have learned about the haakaa. This funny sounding device is a silicone cup-like pump that is placed on the opposite breast while you are feeding your baby. The cup applies gentle suction and catches the let-down. This doesn’t sound like much, but let me tell you, it has collected a TON of milk that would have otherwise been soaked up in a breast pad and thrown away! Each nursing session I collect anywhere from 1-3 ounces. If you add that up over a series of 10 or so nursing sessions, that is a significant amount of milk that can be stored and frozen! I am one month into my journey and already have a nice freezer supply started and I have not even started pumping for supply for when I go back to work! If you are planning to breastfeed, or know a new Mom who is, make sure you purchase one of these!!
